Some Kiwi fishermen caught a colossal squid:

Keen! I would've left it in the water myself... Although most Giant and Colossal Squid seen on the surface are sick...

Interesting the stuff they're catching these days, between this and the frilled and goblin sharks that were caught off Japan recently. I think a lot of it is that the explosion of mass communication and video everywhere makes claims more credible which previously would have been dismissed as "just another crazy sea monster story". I also wonder if trawlers are getting better at scouring at depths previously unattainable...and of course, if abnormalities in water temperature with the el-Nino this year (or general global warming?) are causing deep-sea creatures to move to levels they don't normally frequent.
