I finished Behemoth, sequel to Leviathan, by Scott Westerfeld this weekend after picking it up on Wednesday. It actually came out on Tuesday, but I'd pre-ordered it, then forgot I'd done that. I ordered another book recently and was expecting the call for that one, so when the clerk at Porter Square Books handed me Behemoth, I was quite startled.

I liked it very much! But while tons of stuff happens and the plot moves merrily forward, we are left still mired in the machinations (ha ha!) of World War I. That left me with a strong kind of "transitional book" aftertaste.

It was also a bit frustrating, primarily because I wanted to read book three IMMEDIATELY after finishing Behemoth and I can't! Dangit!

N.B. For those of you who are Alan Cumming fans, he apparently read the audiobook version, released simultaneously with the print edition. This is particularly neat because one of the two main characters is Scottish.

ALSO! The comic book Lady Mechanika issue #0 is on the shelves now. Set in London in the late 1800s, it follows the exploits of the infamous Lady Mechanika, part human, part machine, as she looks into strange goings-on and secretly tries to figure out who -- or what -- she is.

AND! Television show Castle on Monday night (10pm Eastern on ABC) will be featuring a Steampunk convention, along with a 200-year-old bullet and a secret society. I'm tingling in anticipation! No, really!

Re: books sort of steampunk

Yes! I love Gail Carriger's books! There's a third one, y'know. Just came out a month ago... BLAMELESS, I believe.
