One Solicitation Failed [Feb. 21st, 2010|02:09 am]

I mentioned that if one of my solicitations failed, I'd tell ya'll who it was.

Well, according to one of the industry watch lists I follow, Geek Monthly magazine is going out of business. And that was where I sent one pitch.

So, I still have one pitch outstanding (no response yet) and I have another review to write for the Weekly Dig (he wanted five options, not five pieces; he picked two... I might get more work if he likes both of the reviews I provide).

Anybody know how long I should wait for a pitch to be accepted/rejected/ignored before pitching it to another magazine?

Now I gotta think of other places to pitch.

Does it count (to you) as failed if the publication won't be, well, publishing any longer? I was thinking that is not so much a rejection as a non-happening. YMMV

I don't know enough to offer suggestions for how long to wait before taking a piece to another publication.

Still damn impressed with your efforts on all this :)

Hmm. "Failed" was just the easiest way to express it. I didn't take it personally or anything.

Still damn impressed with your efforts on all this :)

Thanks!

Mebbe. I thought he mostly wrote fiction, though. You generally don't send queries for fic.

queries

I think I once saw in Barnes & Nobles, in the magazine section, a mag about submitting things. It might have been fiction, I can't remember. Next time I am in B&N (yes we still go there - the Rio Grande valley does not have a lot of book stores) I will look for it.
