I've never really been a fan of peaches. I mean, I like them OK, but I wouldn't actually seek out a peach to eat.
Until we started getting the fruit part of our farmshare.
Sun-ripened, picked off the tree, put in a paper bag, and handed to us a few hours later. Allowed to finish ripening in the kitchen until the fruit is practically falling off the pit... freakin' unbelievable. Sweet! Delicious! Faint notes of vanilla! Heaven!
Same with nectarines, although I actively disliked nectarines. Not a powerful hate, but I never chose them - until I'd had a farmshare peach and decided to give 'em a shot. Damn! Also amazing, with hints of an almost cinnamon-like flavor.
Wow. Never has the benefit of local growers been quite so... I guess vivid for me.
