Why do I suddenly hear the funk-infused singing of Chaka Khan?

Microsoft just lost the current battle for world information/software hegemony.

The USA still has some semblance of the Rule of Law.

There's good food available at your local market.

Metro Boston has lots of smart people living in it.

It will soon be autumn, the leaves will turn pretty colors, and the heat+humidity will go bye-bye for a time.

Last I knew, Mary Chung's Chinese Restaurant and Tosci's ice cream were good.

Kittens. Kittens are good.
Sushi. Sushi is good.

We still have freedom of speech and religion in this country.

I love you.

Kitten sushi, however? Not so much.

I'm betting you haven't actually tried it, though...

I was listening to the happy mix I made you this morning, and it made me happy and made me think of you!

I am thinking of starting my own religion. Or at least assembling the chair I bought from Ikea, tonight.

A poem, composed on the spot:
Autumn, once again, has begun on cue.
The beginnings of a biting chill are in the air.
The shine in the morning has a lingering whiff of summer.
But it comes later and later.

And you were never one for grand gestures.
Sometimes I act like a grand gesture is all,
But it is not. When I think about it,
There is more in the quiet of a morning,
When you come downstairs and eat by my side.

Darkest winter is on its way,
We shall be cozy, deep inside
The blanket I knitted last year
And eating apples and popcorn
While watching stupid movies.

Summer's almost over! OK, that one depends on one's perspective.

My dad is recovering well from his surgery and learning how to walk again.

There's a Bacon of the Month club.

Alice can trill her tongue. This is really cute and good when her mouth is empty. When filled with peas, not so much.

I have fun travel plans for this weekend!

I'm in the middle of reading a really good book I've been meaning to read for a while.

Our latest storage buy at work is arriving (in pieces, of course...still needs to be racked and stacked and whatnot) which will alleviate the perennial space crunch, at least for a little while. (After all, it's only about a third of a petabyte. I mean, really, how long do you expect that to last?)

The sun is warm, the grass is green, and there are people outside being silly.

that's a very cute goat. or else a really massive rabbit.

otoh, if one has been traumatized by goats, there is a group for it -- http://www.goat-trauma.org/ (specifically geared towards petting zoo incidents gone wrong. i don't know if their support system includes those who have raised goats.)

other things that are good: over lunch today, i taught a small child to use a knife balanced on a rolled up napkin as a makeshift catapult to fling pennies into the air.

I bought Larry Niven's Draco Tavern today, and thus thought of you, so this was a perfect request.
