Grindhouse [Mar. 10th, 2007|02:39 am]

Oh! Oh! Also, while waiting for The Host to begin, we saw a trailer for Grindhouse, the "double feature" by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and it looks really, truly, WONDERFULLY awful. Super bad in the best possible way. Zombies, terror, explosions, lots of dirt, murder, bad guys, busty women, good guys... everything and everyone!

It has tons of cameos, including Bruce Willis (who's not on the extended cast list), Danny Trejo (always a very bad man), Kurt Russell (as The Evil Stuntman Mike), Tom Savini (good guy or bad as Deputy Tolo?), and many more, including Tarantino himself playing The Rapist.

If nothing else, I gotta see it for the amputee chick with the machine gun leg!

OMG. That was Kurt Russel? Being half face-blind is such a downer sometimes.

Yeah, with the big face scar that made me think he was going to be doing an Escape From FOO type character. But he's not.

What I wanna know is whether the chick really doesn't have a leg or if they did magic with editing? It'd be so cool if she was an Iraq War vet turned actor or something. That would rock.

there's a team of amputee stuntmen who work in hollywood getting fake limbs ripped off and such -- a bunch of them worked on "starship troopers".

Yep, you've mentioned.

But I'm wondering if there are any who've made the leap to ACTOR!

I'm looking forward to it as well, though I'm hoping that Tarantino/Rodriguez aren't going to push the Saw/Hostel snuff film squick factor higher than even those films to live up to the "grindhouse" title. It's a weird feeling to realize there are now movies I can't tolerate seeing and that particular brand of eyeball-torture (sometimes literally) will usually knock a film off my list.

(I've been drifting in and out of Sleazoid Express, a history of the Times Square grindhouse theaters for a couple of months now. It's suprisingly boring for such a lurid topic...)

Yeah, I'm hoping it's going to be more like the second half of From Dusk Til Dawn and less like the first half (which freaked me out).

I actually don't like horror all that much. Every so often I catch something I really like, but honestly, I'm more interesting in the Dark Fantasy and Cyberpunk SF end of the scale than unrelenting death death DEATH.

Thinking about it more, the few horror films I've liked have a Last Man Standing type ending, where one or more people survive due to a combination of ability, strength of character, and luck.

And they have to actively survive, rather than be preserved because they are too young or innocent or escape notice somehow.

If it's an Everybody Dies type movie, I probably won't like it and would prefer not to watch it (they're sometimes easy to spot because True Horror fans love them or they're part of a series).
