I bought an exercise thingy for less than $100 through Sears (well, their website, but I was guided by an actual Sears salesperson who explained that very little of what appears on the website also appears on the floor of the store) and it FINALLY arrived today! And I used it! It's a mini elliptical you can use sitting down (or, if you have really good balance, standing up). Jennifer Hunter recommended it; it's this model: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I put it together and pedaled it for 45 minutes/3,670 rotations which is apparently 13.1 miles (or maybe km; they forgot the instruction manual & the website doesn't specify; hurray for being mechanically inclined enough to not need assembly directions) today while watching a show via Comcast's on-demand thinger. It doesn't really tuck away very well, but I have hopes for the future as I divest myself of crap and rearrange what's left that there will soon be more room.
The important thing is that I've set things up so there's a really low barrier to usage. Just slide it over and turn around one of the dining room chairs.
This is part of a larger plan to make my life suck less. Wish me luck.
