Ya know what I hate? Nursing along old crappy junk that barely works.
I'm not talking about people. At least with people, you've got wisdom in there.
But with shitty old phones or shitty old credit card machines or shitty old computers or shitty old WHATEVER THE FUCK where you have to hit it just the right way, turn it a little in the middle of angling something through the other, or reboot it over and over until it repairs enough of its drive to work again, that just sucks.
And you don't have to replace it. I'm not all about the new shit. I don't have to have everything shiny. Cuz frankly, lots of new shit works (or fails to work) worse than old shit, either due to crap production methods or lack of oversight or a disposable culture mindset or cheap-ass materials or whatever.
But if you've got old shitty stuff that only half works, GET A PROFESSIONAL TO FIX IT! If you can't afford that, then just fucking FIRE ME and use the money to pay for the repair because I am SICK AND TIRED of nursing this shit along, so getting rid of me will be good for your budget AND your broken machinery AND my own goddamn piece of mind.
I am feeling VERY CRANKY for many MANY different reasons, but it's not just my current job, it's all my jobs. There's always some shitty old machine in every goddamn job I've ever worked that I have to nurse along because there's nobody left who knows how to fix it and everybody's too scared or too broke to replace it. Is there ever gonna be a time when I will work somewhere that everything runs smoothly? And when it doesn't, I'm allowed to call a GODDAMN REPAIR PERSON instead of limping along in some pathetic "we've always done it this way" mode?!?!
